Giant Danio $2.99 Buy Giant Danios |
Origin: India and Sri Lanka.
Temperament: Peaceful and active. Good for community tanks.
Feeding: Feed with flakes or small live foods. A long tank is
recommended.
Sexing:
Male is thinner and has brighter
colors
than the female
Comments: The Giant Danio prefers to be kept in pairs or schools.
The Giant Danio is a true "giant" among danios. It can grow to a maximum length of four inches and is an excellent schooling fish in larger community aquariums. The Giant Danio is also a very attractive fish with captivating blue coloration. Its gold spots and lines intensify the blue-green background of this fish.
Because the Giant Danio is such an active fish, it requires a large aquarium with ample swimming room. A hood should always be installed on the aquarium housing these fish, as they like to jump. Giant Danios should be kept in a group consisting of five or more fish.
An egg layer, the Giant Danio is stimulated to spawn by sunlight. After roughly 300 eggs are produced, hatching occurs within 36 hours. Fry should be fed fine pieces of live foods.
